Our new boiler installation project reached the point where project engineers said it’s time to completely close the Church to the public for several months commencing January 15th, 2024. Asbestos testing and removal, floor and wall demolition in and around the sacristy, and the shutting down of the current boiler make it unsafe and unhealthy to occupy the Church for Mass, prayer or reflection during this phase of the project.
Cardinal Dolan has assured parishioners that there is no plan to close St. Michael’s permanently. In fact, the new boiler and future renovation plans are part of making the Church, including its uniquely large assembly spaces, better able to serve the needs of the growing lower midtown and Hudson Yards work and residential communities for generations to come.
